On Sunday 22 August police attended a report of assault. A 50 year old Latvian female suffered severe facial injuries in what is believed to be a domestic related incident. An 18 year old Lithuanian female is currently in Yeovil custody (as at 23/8/10).

Saturday’s rains left three people dead and hundreds without homes in the southwestern part of Poland. The Miedzianka River flooded most of the town of Bogatynia, located in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. A dam in Niedowie was broken and caused major interference at the Turów coal mine. Sunday’s wave cumulation on the Nysia Łyżycka River passed Zgorzelec, 27 km north of Bogatynia, but flooded nearby Przedmieście Nyskie and Bulwar Grecki.

The 18th July 2010 sees the 5th International Festival of Culture coming to Minehead. This event will be an opportunity for the diverse community of West Somerset to celebrate culture. The festival is expected to bring hundreds of people together, from across the South West, to share in this event and also be a part of the national Big Lunch. An event not to be missed, as together we celebrate community cohesion, diversity and culture!
Every last Tuesday in the month, PC Amanda Cross comes to the drop-in meetings at the MECA office in South Street, Yeovil, to listen to the members of migrant communities, to inform us of any legal matters that may concern us and to promote a positive image of the Police force. We decided to ask how she has found working with MECA, to highlight achievements that marked our cooperation and to give suggestions for our future relationship.

Gregory James WALKER of Yeovil, Somerset appeared at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday 18th March 2010 and was found guilty of two offences of Section 18 wounding for which he received a 4 year custodial sentence.
The Anglo Polish Society will be holding an exhibition in Wells Cathedral for two weeks from Friday 7th May 2010, during the Cathedral opening hours, admission is free. The aim of the Exhibition “In war and in peace - Poles who came to the West Country” is to contribute to a better understanding of Poland, its place in history, and how Poles have become part of the community in the West Country since the 1939-45 World War and since Poland became part of the European Union.
Due to new funding stream from Somerset Community Foundation and Migration Impact Fund, Midwest European Communities Association is opening new services in Shepton Mallet. MECA invites everyone who is having problems and wishes them to resolve it.
